April 7, 1933 - 83 years-ago, the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales made their debut, delivering Budweiser to FDR in the White House, at the end of Prohibition. After an absence of legal beer for almost 14 years, crowds began gathering at mid-afternoon the previous day near the loading docks and shipping yards of Anheuser-Busch. By 9 PM, the crowd of thousands were so close, police had to be called in to keep the area clear for trucks. At midnight, over a nationwide radio hook-up, the clock in the brewhouse tower began striking 12, but only the first stroke was heard, as the others were drowned out by the roar of the crowd, sirens, and horns.
